We have for example its price when it is fully equipped or the fact that it requires a special cloth when cleaning the Pro Display XDR screen. But there is more, it seems, putting the wheels on it means taking it to Apple’s technical support or to an authorized dealer to do it.
The Mac Pro is now modular again, which means it’s easier to expand its internal capabilities . But it’s also possible to customize it externally, for example by choosing whether or not it has wheels. If we choose with wheels from the beginning when we buy it, there is no problem (apart from paying the more than 400 euros that it costs). But if we decide later to put them on… we will not be able to do it on our own.
A new Apple Support document provides details on changing a number of items in the Mac Pro. Among them are the wheels, which, as Apple points out, must be contacted or an authorized reseller to do so. Why? It’s not entirely clear. Most likely, the wheelchair-mount system on the Mac Pro is hooked up internally and requires some special tool to open it.
Changing the wheels seemed to be one of the easiest repairs that could be made to the new Mac Pro, however, it seems that changing the RAM is easier than changing the wheels.
At AppleThe Mac Pro arrives: Apple’s most powerful computer is now available for purchase alongside the Pro Display XDR
The new Mac Pro is one of Apple’s most exclusive computers, by target users and by price. This means that it also requires a more specialized service , such as changing some wheels. A question of priorities.
