The iPad wins first prize in customer satisfaction from J.D. Power for the second time in a row
Volume 1 of J.D. Power and Associates’ tablet market customer satisfaction survey was released this week, and shows the apple tablet at the top of this list, far outperforming the competition in terms of overall quality. The iPad scored 836 points on a 1,000-point scale in owner satisfaction , and 5 out of 5 in the industry in J.D. Power’s ranking.

A short distance from Apple in terms of customer satisfaction is Amazon, which scored 829 points. Both are above the industry average of 828 points. Samsung, Asus and Acer complete the Top 5 with 822, 818 and 784 points respectively.
The study evaluated tablet owners who have had such devices for a year or less. J.D. Power uses five key factors to assess satisfaction. Performance was the most important, followed by comfort of use, style and design, features and cost.
This is the second time in a row that the iPad has taken first place in the J.D. Power rankings. In the previous study, published in September, Apple and Amazon also took first place, although both had slightly higher scores .
The study also analyzed the behaviors of tablet owners, finding that 51% of tablet owners share their device with at least one person . This exchange seems to be linked to higher overall satisfaction, as users who shared their tablet with 4 or more people reported 28 points higher satisfaction than users who did not share their device. It seems that the tablet is also considered the best device for surfing the Internet, as tablet owners who also have smartphones report spending 36% more time surfing with their tablets than with their smartphones.
Apple, of course, is not uncommon at the top of J.D. Power’s list, as we read today on AppleInsider. The iPhone has won first prize on this list 9 times in a row, the last time in March of this year. The manufacturer of the iPad is not ashamed to display these awards, listing J.D. Power’s ratings in their list of reasons to buy an iPad or iPhone.
