Meet Spotty, the app that lets you listen to Spotify on your Apple Watch
If you are a premium Spotify user and also have an Apple Watch you will have noticed that there is still no official application for this streaming music service for watchOS. The first two years of the Apple Watch are almost over, but the smartwatch still has a big gap in terms of applications for watchOS.
In the absence of an official Spotify app for the Apple Watch, developer and student Andrew Chang has decided to launch his own app called Spotty . This is a free third party app that allows Spotify Premium users to sync the playlists and albums they want to play offline from the Apple Watch.

As you can see, Spotty will have two major advantages. Not only will it put Spotify within your reach via the Apple Watch, but because it allows offline playback you can leave your iPhone at home while you go out to train enjoying your favourite music. Want to know more about Spotty for Apple Watch?
Spotty is an amazing app that works with all Apple Watch models , both the first generation and the current Series 1 and Series 2. In the following video you can see a small demonstration of how Spotty works.
Obviously the first thing you have to do is download Spotty to your iPhone via the App Store. Once you’ve done this and paired the Apple Watch with your smartphone you must open Spotty and give it permission to use your Spotify Premium account.
Next you’ll see all your playlists and albums that you have saved in your Spotify Premium account appear in the Spotty interface . You can choose which playlists and albums in your Spotify account to synchronise to Spotty so you can listen to them offline from the clock.
Synchronization is a two-part process. On the one hand, once you move the switch to activate synchronization the songs on the album or playlist are cached and processed by Spotty . Then, after a song is processed it is transferred via the Bluetooth connection to the Apple Watch.
Once the sync process is complete, it will ask you to start the Spotty application on the Apple Watch to confirm that all the songs have been transferred successfully. Spotty does not require much beyond a valid Spotify Premium login of at least 30 days to keep your playlists in sync on the Apple Watch.
Another feature of Spotty is that offers the possibility to synchronize music in normal, high or extreme quality . However, depending on the quality you choose, you will have to wait more or less when transferring the music to your Apple Watch via Bluetooth.

Once the synchronisation of Spotify lists and albums is complete you can put your Apple Watch into offline mode via a switch within the Spotty app. This way you can listen to all your music synced offline and without having your iPhone near you , so it’s perfect for going out and about, for example.
On the other hand, it should be noted that Spotty allows music to be played through Bluetooth headsets or through the built-in speaker in the Apple Watch . So all you have to do is choose how you prefer to enjoy your music.
Spotty has three essential playback modes, the tethered mode , which allows you to use the Apple Watch as a Spotty remote control for the iPhone . This mode allows the user to run the Watch virtually all day.
The offline low power mode allows you to play music in sync independently of an iPhone , but uses the system’s audio player and disables the gesture controls offering up to 6.5 hours of playtime. Finally there is the offline workout mode , an offline training mode where Spotty handles the audio, gestures are enabled and the workout is automatically tracked . This mode promises up to 3 hours of battery life on a full charge.
The Spotty app on iPhone has a settings button in the upper-right corner of the screen where you can change various things to your liking. In addition, you can select the type of training you will be working on and it will register correctly in your Health app .
Finally, it should be noted that Spotty allows you to start training even via Siri on the iPhone . You can then leave your iPhone at home and go out and do your physical activity.
Spotty is still in a beta phase and still has things to perfect, but its developer is working on releasing the final version very soon , which will be totally free. What more can you ask for?
