Apple is not making things easy for the scene and in addition to the hardware changes introduced with the iPad 2 bootrom and iPhone 4S to avoid the vulnerability exploited by limera1n, only iOS 5 includes more than 200 new features and changes, with a direct impact increasing the security of the system and, by extension, delaying the public releases of Jailbreak tools capable of overcoming the walls of the new updates.
But of course, you never know how things will go in the cat and mouse game, and in the last few hours the community has received some good news . First of all, the guys at iPhone Dev-Team have confirmed that the method used to do the iPad 2 jailbreak four months ago is still working on iOS 5.1 so they will at least be able to do the iPad 3 kernet dump needed to work on it.
On the other hand i0n1c (Stefan Esser), the hacker after the untethered jailbreak of version 4.3.1 has announced through his twitter account that he has succeeded with the jailbreak of iOS 5.1 with the iPad 2 using a different method than described above. We hope to have news soon about whether this is an untethered jailbreak of the operating system that can work also on the iPhone 4S and, fingers crossed, the new iPad that has been released today in 10 countries and will arrive at ours next week.
Update: MuscleNerd has just confirmed that the iPhone Dev-Team has successfully jailbroken the new iPad so we will definitely have news about a new version of redsn0w with support for iOS 5.1, iPhone 4S and all iPad models soon.
